That’s quite alternative indeed. The country/state selection is also a great use case for an XmlHttpRequest implementation, me thinks. Even less clutter.
I’d be much more inclined to do it as unobtrusive JavaScript: there’s no page-weight to speak of in sending the whole lot along, formatted as
<select>s for Lynx and the script-free crowd, with an onload to turn them into something much more friendly.Are they really this hated and this much of a problem, though? For me, ”select your state” just means tab, O, O, O to get to Oregon.
