Turning wheels

Rather odd to see this particular wheel turning around: Hirotaka Ogawa’s Update-n-Ping plugin for Movable Type allows you to send update pings every time you save an already published post, neatly (actually, rather roughly, since when you first save a new entry, both MT and the plugin send pings) undoing the integration into MT of the second thing I hacked into it when I started using it in May 2002, to stop spam pinging.

Maybe there’s some particular narrow use-case for it, or maybe nobody human actually looks at the results of update pings anymore, but I remember before MT 2.5 it was incredibly annoying to use things like blo.gs to track people using MT, because you never knew whether they had added a post or just corrected a typo you didn’t even spot the first three times you read it in response to their first three update pings.
