[a-z]+Blo[xz]om

Andy Edmonds has the first installable release of Blozom, his Mozilla-based blogging tool, ready to go. Version 0.0.2. Yes, that’s two zeros. For me, at least, the XPI link for the support library doesn’t work, so I dug the URL out of the source and installed it that way, and now I’m looking around for, um, Andy, how the hell do you actually use it?

Also, I’d be inclined to say that the name space around __Blo_om is just about full now. Probably time to start on a new set of overly similar names, though I don’t think anyone has done Posxom yet, unless the h in Phosxom is silent.

Well, I would have come up with a new name, but I’d just designed this flowery thing for my Visual Communication class and graphical inspiration is rare enough in my world…

The key to making it work is manually setting up the blozomDataPath and the blozomPublishPath in mozilla/chrome/blozom/content/prefs.js.

A wizard for this is top on the agenda. Anyone who wants to play can look me up at roadandyed@aim, or in #mozdev @ irc.mozilla.org

Oh, I didn’t mean you should have picked another name (the z was too perfect to pass up), just that it’s about time for people to start thinking about a new set, before people get much more confused about which one is which.

I did edit prefs.js, but either I didn’t get things properly installed, or I’m just not bright enough to be using it at this point (or both, most likely). I was expecting that after I installed it, edited the paths, and restarted Moz, that I would see something changed, and something pretty obvious since you don’t say word one about the what/where/how, but I’m not seeing it. Which I’m pretty sure means I’ve got no business alpha testing. Not a problem, sometimes I’m actually patient.

Ahh… Yep, I forgot to mention the critical final step. To run it, visit chrome://blozom/content/blozom.xul.

Alternatively, create a .bat file that does:
mozilla.exe -chrome chrome://blozom/content/blozom.xul
