Half of Peter and Valentine’s world

Thinking about what Orson Scott Card might still have to say about Ender’s world, it occurred to me that if Ender’s Game was rewritten today (or, more reasonably, in a few years), Locke and Demosthenes would be writing weblogs, rather than posting in what sounds a bit like Usenet. I see that someone was already ahead of me with demosthenes.blogspot.com, though locke.blogspot.com, um, isn’t.

Oddly enough, if you are the original, real Demosthenes (you know, the chap who died around 322 BC), the owners of demosthenes.com will link to your official site, according to the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

Actually, it was partially the concept of the pseudonymous yet influential commentator that inspired me to choose the name ”Demosthenes”. It seemed appropriate to the medium. I don’t think Card’s Demosthenes is that far off, though; although he started off as a member of the various ”nets”, what really brought him into the public eye was, yes, an op/ed column. Since weblogs are essentially op/ed columns available to anybody who wants one, it seemed appropriate.

Thanks for the link.
