Stop spam-pinging

Friday, May 10th, 2002

Before I started using Movable Type, I noticed that MT blogs seemed to ping weblogs.com without actually having any new content quite often. Once I started using it myself, I realized that the problem was that MT pings every time you save a post with status “Publish”, even if you only saved it because you […]

Good, bad, old

Wednesday, May 8th, 2002

Finally, finally getting broadband at work: good. Having to spend the whole afternoon down in the crawlspace pulling cat-5: bad. My poor tired body: old.

Me like Meryl. Me link Meryl.

Tuesday, May 7th, 2002

As my previous title suggests, Meryl’s Hulk-speak posts have got me doing it too. The good thing will be if it gets rid of the Buffalo Billy routine I’ve been doing for far too long. If someone is stupidly sitting at a stop sign, waiting for an omen, I’ve been shouting “It goes through the […]

Template Modules Good!

Tuesday, May 7th, 2002

Not only is David Gagne’s Blogdata tutorial (explaining how to do a set of icons at the bottom of each post for links to categories, comments, mail this post, etc.) a cool trick that I’m going to have to steal, it also finally made the Movable Type template modules idea click for me. It’s really […]

The MT Anti-Massacre Movement

Tuesday, May 7th, 2002

And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in singin’ a bar of Alice’s Restaurant and walking out. And friends they may thinks it’s a movement. — Arlo Guthrie Marcus is back, with permalinks that betray what he’s been up to lately.

In search of a new topic

Tuesday, May 7th, 2002

I have to agree with Jim: i don’t know that weblog software is all that exciting to talk about. it’s like the “hello world” of web applications. But, um, er, that’s all I’ve been talking about for the better part of a year now. So, what next?

Post-switch depression

Sunday, May 5th, 2002

Damnedest thing. After several hours of importing entries from Blogger and comments from dotcomments, mucking around with mod_rewrite to make sure that permalinks would still work, and faked-up directories that used to lead to index.php?p=whatever.inc would now go to category archives, I now have no interest in playing with my new toy. I don’t feel […]

Dislocation, breakage, light posting

Sunday, May 5th, 2002

If I made the standard post about how I’m working on the backend, and you should expect some dislocation and breakage, and especially infrequent posting, would that be as funny as I think it is?

Worth the price of admission

Saturday, May 4th, 2002

I don’t remember anyone talking it up, but the feature that lets you link a template to a file, so that you can edit your template either in MT or in your favorite editor, completely rocks. Unlike realizing you misspelled completely while testing w.bloggar->mt.

Perhaps MT.pm instead

Friday, May 3rd, 2002

Trying the blo.gs ping stuffed into MT.pm, where MT does its calls to MT::XMLRPC, instead. Perhaps it will be better behaved there. I would have liked to redo the whole ping subroutine, since it currently dies on the first error (say, pinging weblogs.com returns an error: you don’t get to ping anything else, including the […]
